Today the letters Q and U got married. The boys dressed up as QUarterbacks and the girls dressed up as QUeens. We made a list of QU words and had a fun wedding and reception for the letters that stay together. "Q and U stick like glue!" We had a lot of fun learning today!
Today was the 100th day of kindergarten. We made 100th Day posters and brought them to school. In the afternoon, we made 100 bead necklaces, finished 100 grid puzzles, and found 100 numbers around the classroom. We practiced counting to 100 a lot!
Friday was our alphabet celebration day because we have learned all of our letters! We celebrated with alphabet songs, alphabet Cheese-Its, and alphabet games. It was also Johnny Appleseed's birthday. He would've been 240 years old. We learned about him by reading books about him, coloring printable books about him, and making applesauce. All of the kids participated in making the applesauce which made it much more fun!
Yesterday we learned the letter Qq and today we worked on the letter Rr. The kids had fun painting their name in rainbow colors with Q-tips.
(Parents - Sorry for the delay in some of these posts. We now have all of our permission slips back for posting pictures online so the postings should be more often. Yay!) One of our art projects this week was to make a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree. We made our trees, added some letter stickers and retold our story. We had a fun day of learning the letters in our alphabet and how they all wanted to race each other up the tree.
I'm very excited to meet all of our new kindergarten students and their families this week at kindergarten orientation! Please remember to bring your paperwork that was sent in the mail when you come to your orientation time. I look forward to seeing you and learning more about your child. Open House at Prairie Rose Elementary is on August 26th, 2014 from 5:00PM-6:00PM. Please bring you child's school supplies to school during that time frame. If you have any questions about Open House or if you are unable to make our orientation time, please let me know. Thanks for all that you do as parents and guardians! Let's work together to make this a positive year and experience for our students! These awesome rain hats were donated to the kids in our classroom by some friends of mine who own a minor league baseball team. The kids were very excited to wear them!
Thank you DSU for hosting Kid's Day on the Farm and thank you to the parent/grandparent chaperones who joined us on this adventure! This week we learned about zoo animals. The pictures above are of our newest Zoo Keepers with the animals that they are "experts" on. Below are pictures of the habitats that they created for their animals. On Friday, the students took turns being the zoo keepers and kids at the zoo so they could ask other students questions about their animals and habitats. |
